Hi. First of all, I would like to thank all the guys involved with Inkscape, it's truly a useful application and it's nice to see how many languages that are supported. This brings me to the point, my native language is Swedish, and the translation for Inkscape with Swedish is far from complete. My English skills are probably enough to make a translation, but although I'm a fairly experienced computer user, I can't make out where to start the translation process. I guess the translation is stored in a separate file of some kind, but where is it? Is there anything else, besides this I should know before digging in?
Thanks in advance

We are glad to hear that :)

The file you are looking for is sv.po and is stored in /po directory. You can get actual version of the file for 0.45 release from [1]. It is regular text file with translation definitions but we recommend to use some translation relates tools to translate them, like poedit, gtranslator etc.

All you would probably like to know about translating Inkscape is described on wiki page [2]. You can find there information about what, how and where can be translated. After the translation, the file should be submited to our patch tracker at sourceforge so we can test it and commit to the release tree.
If there is anything else you would like to ask and we could answer, feel free to. If you would like to have a quick answer, join us at IRC or jabber conference rooms. There is usually at least one person familiar with translations that can help you :)

Hello Joakim,
My name is Henrik Larsson. I did a lot of updates of the Swedish translation during the fall last year (between 0.44 and 0.45). I have not been able to spend any time during the release process for for 0.45, but I plan to continue with the Swedish translation of Inkscape.
I am happy that you like Inscape and would like to help with the Swedish translation. We can work together with the translation work. It is always easier if one has someone to discuss translation issues.
I will contact you directly with information how to do the actual translation.
Best Regards,
Henrik

Hi Joakim and Henrik,
may I suggest you something? I think it's a good idea to work on a translation team for other project. For instance, you could send your inkscape translation to the Gnome translation team for your language or the KDE translation language team, so you can get useful feedback from them.
Regards.
