Fwd: Self introduction "Artur"
Yes exactly ,
the first page was the problem. I can see that the rest of the pages are partially translated.
Is it possible to take a local copy of the inkscape Website to test its modification? (for example Linux+apache+sql+wordpress) Where can I find a tutorial on how to set an inkscape page on my own server?
I do not even know what CMS is used on the site. So far I have used mainly for wordpress.
Just out of curiosity, what type of translation software do you use? I'm asking about personal preferences (each of you). Not what is available on the market. Do you use any dictionaries? is it integrated with your software. Do you prefer to manually translate the word by word.
I do not know how to translate the content in CMS yet. :)

Hi Artur,
and welcome :)
Thank you for introducing yourself, you seem like an avid graphics experimenter!
Having a technical background will make translations easier for you (not because of the terminology, but because of the tools).
What is it that doesn't work with your first translation? (Artur translated the website po file to Polish)
CMS pages are redirected to English, when there's no contents at all for the language, so that's the reason for the language chooser taking no effect on the start page for Polish yet - but if you go to the gallery or your profile page, you will see your translations on the website.
Was that what you mean?
Please ask any questions you may have - we'll be glad to answer them!
Kind Regards, Maren

Hi all, I am a Artur.
I would like to translate the Inkscape software interface and Inkscape
Web
page to Polish .
Who am I?
I am an engineer working every day in a company producing heavy
vehicles. I
have10 years of experience in design (in software: SolidWorks,DraftSight,AutoCAD).
As a freelancer, I do: 3D modeling (Blender,3Ds Max), Creating textures (Gimp,Substance Designer,Substance Painter ), Create game assets(Unity3d, CryEngine)
Create
script for Unity3d, CryEngine (Java, C++, C#).
I like to do: hand drawing (pencil, eraser, fine line pen), digital painting (Krita,
Corel
Painter), create vector drawings (Inkscape).
I spent the last 3 or 4 years for my family and did not do much with additional jobs. Children have grown a bit so I can go back to what I like. I do not have too much time yet but I hope that she will be able to do a full translation of the website and software in a year or two.
I still do not understand the mechanisms of this website :) and translations. My first translation does not work exactly as I would like. But with questions, I will wait until I read the entire Wiki page for translators.
If anyone has questions for me, ask me a lot.

- Yes, it is :) (It's Linux/Python2.7 virtual environment + sqllite/Django development server, and all is set up automagically when you run the setup script)
Where can I find a tutorial on how to set an inkscape page on my own server?
- On the same Wiki page where the translation info for the website is available, just a bit farther down:
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite#Website_Development
I do not even know what CMS is used on the site. So far I have used mainly for wordpress.
- The website uses Django and django-cms (and django-cms is the component that causes the most worries, because it's rather buggy, and in addition to that, they removed the undo functionality... :-/ ).
Just out of curiosity, what type of translation software do you use? I'm asking about personal preferences (each of you). Not what is available on the market. Do you use any dictionaries? is it integrated with your software. Do you prefer to manually translate the word by word.
- I'm using Lokalize, which allows to sync multiple translations for different versions of a software (easier if you translate the program for both currently supported branches - but the documentation for that feature is... weird, you need to try it out), has dictionary support (don't really use it, just the auto-suggestions) and many more features.
I know some others use poedit, or even just edit the plain text files in Notepad++ on Windows.
Yaron wanted to offer to set up web-based translations for the project, but I haven't heard from him for long, I don't know about the current status.
I do not know how to translate the content in CMS yet. :)
- See here for info: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite#Editing http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite#Translations
The most important messages from the above page are:
- Never copy anything that is not *only plain text* via clipboard, *especially not links and images*. If you do, pages may not load, or we'll have Polish links in other languages.
- There's no undo. Be painfully careful, especially always check which language you're currently working in before you save.
- If anything unexpected happens, don't worry (it happens, it happened to each of us), but contact us via list or privately right away, so we can try to fix.
Thank you for your help! It's very much appreciated.
Kind Regards, Maren

I basically use Poedit to save my translations in .po files.
For English words I don’t know, I use Wiktionary or Linguee.
