Hi,
I suppoe i'm not the guy who's gonna decide wheter or not SVN trunk should be moved to GNOME :), but anyway i think he deserves an answer. Since I don't know the reason why Inkscape is not in GNOME maybe others would like to anwer him.
Regards.

Hi all,
My name is Xavier Conde, and I'm a member of Inkscape [1] translation team. We are looking for new translators to improve the translation statistics for Inkscape. Since there are many languages not currently supported, we are asking for new volunteers.
I did suggest once before that Inkscape should move to use the GNOME CVS/SVN repository, which hosts many other projects (except from GNOME) like GTK+ and Gimp. I beleive that would solve most (if not all) of your problems finding translators -- if it's in the GNOME repository, then the GNOME Translation Project, with its many hundreds of translators, will help translate it.
Let me know if you're interested.
Regards, Christian

The last time I recall this being suggested, we were at a point of transitioning to SVN. If GNOME had supported SVN at that point, we said it'd be worth transitioning to GNOME SVN, but at the time GNOME had no plans to set up SVN, so that killed the idea.

Actually we don't have problems finding translators -- our translation team is doing great as they are; we just want to recruit additional people for languages we don't already cover, and felt that there might be some people in the GNOME translation team who might also like having the opportunity to translate Inkscape for their language. I understand that not having Inkscape in the GNOME repository gives them an additional step to have to take, and some won't want to do that, but I imagine at least some care enough about Inkscape that they will still wish to do the translation work, and won't mind using our processes.
If it really is the case that they can't use any repository other than GNOME's for some reason, we could simply place a copy of Inkscape in GNOME CVS for them to work from, and then copy the translations back to our own tree later.
