Dear Developer and Translators,

The inkscape website has some new functionality to create, edit, delete and translate news articles.

If you can, I'd like you to help test the functionality over on http://staging.inkscape.org/news/ and find any issues and wrinkles before the new functions are pushed to the live website.

Let me know the issues here on the mailing list rather than on the bug tracker so I can keep the bugs for live issues.

If you don't see any buttons, it's because you must be logged into the website and you must have the required permissions. Let me know here when you're testing and I'll enable your staging account to have permissions.

Thanks to everyone who's helped push improvements in the website :-) I hope we'll have a couple more people working on website functionality in the coming months.

Hey! I see some of the Wiki pages regarding translation are no longer relevant, can someone please help me arrange the different links and explanations there? (Some links are broken and some of the methods are no longer relevant).

And what is the current translation platform? Do translators need to download, edit and upload back or is there any more efficient way?

Sorry for bursting like that I'm just really not involved and the wiki pages confused me even further...

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the testing from various people. The bugs and corner casses (rss feeds, editing flow etc) have been fixed and I've pushed the news to the live website.

I've also fixed the data on live as translations needed to be 'attached' to their parent document to be true translations in the new mechanism.

Thanks for all your help guys, if anyone needs assistance with translating news, let me know.

Does this only affect news? We have existing translations for the screenshot related text, and just want to know the recommended way for me to add them once these pages get added.

For now yes. The pattern I've developed should allow me to hack into the cms pages model in the future. Alas it's a much more complicated job as I will fist have to disable the existing terribly bad multi-language mechanism in favor of a per-widget one.

Your translations should be new page objects within your page, see the page settings top right corner for details. One can create the required page and clone the text widget from your English page. Editing that text widget will then contain your language translation.

When this is all done, I'm going to have to publish the apps separately because I'm sure they'd be beneficial to other django websites.
