Hello everyone,
My name is Nazarii. I'm a Ukrainian native speaker and have already translated Inkscape tutorials into Ukrainian. I'd like to help to translate the website too. I'd like to start translating the index tutorials page (https://inkscape.org/learn/tutorials/) to make the tutorials available as soon as possible (actually, I translated them by recommendation of Ukrainian community).
Experience: can work with po-files. Also, I have tried to study Django some time ago :)
Best regards, Nazarii
Hello and welcome Nazarii
My name is Duarte current maintainer for European Portuguese translation. Your help is appreciated. You can probably start by reading the wiki page about website translation http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite#Translations to get you started, and make a join request for the translation team https://inkscape.org/*translator/. As far as I know we don't currently have any Ukrainian translators for the website so no need to coordinate work yet, but you might have to request adding a new language.
In the meantime I'm sure the moderators here will answer, and if you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.
All the best, Duarte

Hi Duarte,
I've already requested for membership few days ago.
Best regards, Nazarii
Hi Nazarii,
welcome! (we already exchanged a couple messages via website)
To make the website available in Ukrainian, there are a couple steps involved:
1. translating the po file, so we can add the translation to the website menu - it doesn't need to be 100%, but some considerable content should be made available first 2. then translating the start page 3. then translating then Learn page 4. and only then can the tutorials page be translated.
This needs to be done in order because of the website structure. Translated subpages without a page translated that is higher in the page hierarchy will not show up (at least they didn't previously).
So this is where you need to start:
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web-i18n
After working on the po file, we need to add the language to the website (please remind me when the po file is ready). Until then, please familiarize yourself with the Wiki page here: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite and let us know if you have any questions about it.
It may be good to do the first steps in website translation together (via chat channel), as the website CMS is a bit broken and difficult to navigate at times - it's also not very forgiving, if one makes a mistake.
Hope to see you on GitLab soon!
Kind Regards Maren

Hi Maren,
Thank you for your explanations! I've started translating the .po file.
Best regards, Nazarii
Hello everyone,
I've finished translation of the .po file. Should I upload it to GitLab now? If yes, how to do that? If not, what should I do?
Best regards, Nazarii
Hi Nazarii,
please click on the '+' icon in the row where it says 'master / inkscape-web-i18n' on this page: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web-i18n/tree/master
and add the new folder and po file to your copy of the repository (which will be created automatically) and then make a merge request on GitLab with your changes. GitLab will automatically offer you this.
After that, do the same for inkscape-web, editing (not adding, this time) this file:
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/blob/master/inkscape/settings.py
to add your language.
Thank you! Maren

Hi Maren,
I tried to follow your instructions but it seems that I failed. Could you check it please? Or maybe there are some step-by-step screenshots available?
Best regards, Nazarii
Hi Nazarii,
thank you! I'll check it in detail on the weekend. Looks like folder creation didn't work, from a first look.
If you want to, you can try to fix it up until then, else I will (no problem).
Maren
