Hi All,
I'll start Arabic translation for inkscape tomorrow, but before start translation process I would like to be sure that my starting point is correct.
I've downloaded latest SVN code from "inkscape/trunk" folder, but I noticed that there are many folders in SVN one of them called "inkscape_project", so I'm asking you if my downloaded folder is the correct one?
another thing:
I noticed that there aren't "pot" file for translations!, I found "po" files only?!, so is translation process must starting from "po" file like "en_GB.po"?

If you have the source code from SVN go to the po folder and you can generate the most up-to-date .pot file by running the following command: intltool-update --pot
Or you can download the .pot file here: http://www.unstable.it/luca/inkscape.pot

As I said before, I'm not sure that "inkscape/trunk" folder is the correct folder for starting translation process, because there are many folder in SVN.
go to the po folder and you can generate the most up-to-date .pot file by running the following command: intltool-update --pot
I'm using Gettext, so I tried to use this command line for extracting texts, but it failed!
c:\inkscape\po>xgettext -f "c:\inkscape\po\POTFILES.in" xgettext: warning: file `[encoding: UTF-8]' extension `' is unknown; will try C xgettext: error while opening "[encoding: UTF-8]" for reading: Invalid argument

to fix this problem I tried to comment the following lines in POTFILES.in
#[encoding: UTF-8] #inkscape.desktop.in
but another time I faced the following error message with gettext
xgettext: warning: file `[type: gettext/xml] share/extensions/addnodes.inx' extension `inx' is unknown; will try C xgettext: error while opening "[type: gettext/xml] share/extensions/addnodes.inx" for reading: Invalid argument
so I tried to comment all lines with "[type: gettext/xml]" argument (88 lines), and I got a small "po" file with 35 lines only!
Could you please guide me?

If you have the source code from SVN
As I said before, I'm not sure that "inkscape/trunk" folder is the correct folder for starting translation process, because there are many folder in SVN.
Use:
https://inkscape.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/inkscape/inkscape/trunk
go to the po folder and you can generate the most up-to-date .pot file by
running the following command: intltool-update --pot
I'm using Gettext, so I tried to use this command line for extracting texts, but it failed!
I suspect this might be down to the version of xgettext. If you just comment files out lots of strings will be missed. I will send you the most recent .pot file shortly to get you started.
Cheers,
