This works already. Just set your drawing tool to using

last-set-style, then click (for Calligraphic) or Shift+click (for

Pen/Pencil, since they draw with the stroke) on the swatches palette

and draw with that color. This is because clicking on the palette sets

the last-set-style even if nothing was selected in the image.
