Hi! If I may have a suggestion about the node simplification function of Inkscape: The idea is to enhance this function in such a way that Inkscape will simplify only a group of selected nodes. This way, the designer will have control over what part of the path (what group of nodes, literaly what part of the vector object) is affected by this function. In case that there is no selection, the behaviour of the funtion will be the same as now (all nodes are affected).
Such functionality is already realised in Corel Draw, and is very helpful. (see attached screenshot "corel_node_optimization.png" with examples and comments about this function in Corel Draw)
Also, another enhancement could be a smooth "on the fly" control over the simplification strengh/threshold (0-100%). This is also realised in Corel Draw (see attached screenshot "corel_node_optimizationtool.png")
I hope that I've been clear enough, if not please tell me, I'll try to explain it with more details. If you find this suggestion interesting, I will open a RFE at sourceforge.
Thanks!
Molumen

Hello,
"Simplify path" has the disadvamtage that it cuts so many nodes away that the new path looks different.
It all depends on the simplification threshold. Go to options/misc and lower the threshold if the default is too strong for you.
