[Inkscape-user] erase

I have a logo that I created in 2010 when I was confortable using inkscape. I have not used it for a while but would like to delete the date on it and keep the rest. A lovely user of this forum did it for me once but do you think I can find the file ? of course not, lol. Is there any way I can just use a shape, circle perhaps, in white and lay it over the date so it will not show ? I could then save it as a jpg rather than a png and use it. thanks for any advice,Joanne
