My Q, is should we just make it a header graphic for the website? Or should we maybe propose people also contribute the text portion to our logo? Meaning, we have an inkscape logo, but don't have set lettering or fonts for the word Inkscape itself... which is a pretty common practice with all software (the text logo & symbol logo).
I don't think the standard text part of the logo (the spaced-out uppercase serif INKSCAPE) needs to be changed. It's decent, and logos should only be changed when there's a very good reason to do so. You can refer people to this page:

where they can download all versions of our About screens for possible ideas and inspiration. They can also borrow things from those abouts to their designs.
