If you "Save As" your picture as EPS, the result is OK (I checked it) and should be useable by the printer.
It is quite normal that Inkscape cannot open it, it requires some additional tools that you may not have installed. To inspect and EPS you need a Postscript viewer (e.g. Ghostscript) or quality text processor (e.g. OpenOffice.org).
Just send the exported EPS to the printer, and keep in contact with them while they process it.
