Well, thank you! That's exactly what I was asking. I kept searching the menus, but the button was on the left the whole time. And the invisible object as an anchor for three bars is a great idea. Maybe I'll need to join three beziers at one point some day, but for now, the connectors are perfect.

I don't know if I understand you correctly, but I guess the answer to number one would be: use the last (bottom-most) tool from the tool panel called "Create diagram connectors". Click it, hover over a previously created object and the center will light up. Click on the red rectangle and connect it to another object. Now, the connector will move along with the objects.
This could be used to answer your second question as well. Create three connectors emerging from one, invisible, object.
