When I write \u090f\u0915\u094d\u0938 (the devanagari version of the name of the letter X) then it renders wrong. See the attached screenshot. Is this a pango problem? I have pango 1.2.3-1.
You didn't mention anything about fonts you use. My guess is that in Inkscape you simply used a different font which has a different variant of the same glyph. But it's only a guess. View the font(s) you use in Pfaedit to see what glyphs they have for the specific code points.
Anyway, we don't yet use Pango for text rendering on the canvas, so it's not likely to affect that.
