Until there's a fix, ask and ye shall receive as far as the documentation goes. The workaround is now in my docs draft.

Arranging the text in a box and arranging it along a path are sort of mutually exclusive.
Of course, Inkscape should automatically take care of un-flowing text before attaching it to a path. We'll fix that in 0.43, or possibly 0.42.1 if someone gets a patch in in time.
