Can someone help out on this one, or is my only alternative to manually edit each
set of node.
I'm afraid, yes (at least I didn't found another way), but I think this isn't as difficult as it sounds.
My steps (I'm referring to the 'INDIANA' text).
- Type your text with the text tool.
- Make a ellipse for the curved text. Position it above the text.
This will be for the upper part of 'INDIANA'. 3. Make a copy of this ellipse (CTRL+D), and put it right underneath the text. 4. Select both the text and the two ellipses, and align them vertically (center). 5. Select the text and execute 'Text > Object to Path'. 6. Draw the nodes until they go along the ellipses. 7. Execute CTRL + ALT + C. Now you can fine-tune the nodes.
Regarding the lines of the text: I would adjust their width in the beginning.
Here's a screenshot I just did to illustrate what I mean:

Those are not all of the steps to create the INDIANA logo, but I think this is one way to accomplish this.
HTH,

Will give this a try. I basically am trying to find a way so that i minize process so that if I do not like the result I can change rather quickly without excessive undos :)
