As a general principle, I always work with 'snap to grid' switched on and have a grid size of 1mm.
Anything I think I might want to copy I enclose in, and group with a rectangle of *exactly* the grid size with a line width of 0.1mm, no line colour and no fill colour - an invisible rectangle in other words.
Alignment becomes easy :)
