What impresses me most deeply about this image is that while "line art" was done in AI, the "coloring" was done in Photoshop. Is AI unable to do all those shadows, lights and textures itself, in vector? Is it just power of tradition, or would it be just too slow to render or memory-hungry if kept in AI? Or may it be that traditionally-trained artists just don't consider it so important for the final image to be resolution-independed, open and reusable vector?
