When I try to export an image Inkscape automatically minimizes the export dialog window. The only way I can make it visible is by right clicking on the minimized window and maximizing it to cover the entire screen of my monitor. So I only get 2 choices for display of the image export dialog, not at all or full screen.
Inkscape remembers the size and position of windows. Try maximizing it, then hitting the restore button in the window manager, then resize to taste.
