And what about text frames with aligning?
I'm not sure what you're asking for? Our text tool isn't very sophisticated right now, but it is on the list for hacking. If you're looking for desktop publishing Scribus is a good DTP application.
ps. I can't get a cvs access to build dev inkscape with kerning features.
CVS is building for me... so, it might be something with your setup. Can you post the error that you're getting?
