Do you mean the "Create Tiled Clones" dialog (under Edit->Clone)? Use it with 1 Row and 30 Columns. You can change the spacing on the "Shift Tab". There is a whole chapter on the dialog in my book. See:
Yes, this is what I meant, but I think this tool would be a bit complicated for that task, I have to know the distance between objects and type it in etc. A bit cumbersome all in all.
Although this is indeed a bit tricky, merely copying an object is really not /that/ difficult. (I'm particularly having a hard time when trying to align the clones along a circle, even if there/ is/ a tutorial on this /somewhere/.)
Select "Clone > Create Tiled Clone". Then select "P1 (Simple Translation)" and "rows: 1; columns: 30" (if you would like the clones to tile horizontally; otherwise vice versa) inside the first tab, and set your "Shift Factor" (x, y) . Then press "Create". If the result isn't what you want, press "Remove" and start anew. You can scale & rotate the clones and a make number of other modifications. (You can set the distance between the objects in % using the second tab from left.)
