[Inkscape-user] Problem with Z order in basic tutorial

Everything works as advertised until I get to the Section on Z-Order. The altl+click and alt+drag either finds the green rectangle or the whole page, which is not what is intended.

I use a fairly vanilla verson of Slackware Linux 11 and KDE 3.5. My Inkscape alleges that it is Inkscape 0.45.
