Hi Dennis!
It ounds weird to me to use Inkscape as a text layout tool. Just in case you did't notice it yet, there is an IMO great and free Layout Application called Scribus. See http://www.scribus.net .
You argue for doing it all again but different. This is not my way of doing things. I like generalized tools that allow me to do it all reasonably comfortable (not standing in the way). Scribus has nice features but, if Inkscape can do it too a reasonable way, I don't care.
For example:
"Scribus supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation. Scribus was the first DTP application on the planet to directly support PDF/X-3 output, a rigorous ISO standard."
Isn't this a target for Inkscape too? Why a tool for every project? I don't like that.
"Scribus also has unexpected touches such as: useful vector drawing tools, SVG import/export and support for OpenType Fonts. "
Ahhh!?
However, the main reasons why I don't want it are Qt and CMake. I have a small system with only the neccessary installed and refuse to mess it up with everything else just because there is always one single tool that needs it. Can you show me a Gtk+ tool? I used Abiword for text writing but Abiword is a catastrophe (since years now without any intend to change).
