Actually it's not so much of a workaround, just the same action done
differently. The only two methods of printing that Inkscape knows are:
via Postscript or via bitmap. Postscript breaks transparency. Bitmap
does not, but it may give huge files. Whether you do this directly by
Print command or you export first and print the file later, the result
is the same.
