Yes, Inkscape is too important for Fedora to not have some direct involvement.

Anyway, unlike many previous attempts to build Inkscape from source or a package install, this time it finally worked! However, the facility I was hanging out for - PDF import - still seems to be missing?

The PDF import works great with the Mac version. That inability of this to work on Linux has kept me on the Mac platform. I guess the premiere place for open source software is the Mac platform, not Linux.
