[Inkscape-user] Gray screen after launching Inkscape and X11

Hi, I am new to the list. I have just downloaded Inkscape (Inkscape-16090-i386.dmg) on my imac. I use OSX 10.4.10 and I followed very closely the steps and installed the X11 from the installation DVD. When I opened Inkscape, it launched with X11. However the screen that I see is only a gray screen with the Inkscape window (pls see attached picture). I cannot see my desktop nor other applications. Is it normal? I want to have Inkscape working with other application without the necessary quitting Inkscape. Please help. Thanks.
