That's what I did, but it seems very inconvenient and I though that there was a better way.
The problem is your lines in the middle don't hit the nodes of the outer shape accurately, so you can't cut with them.
Here is a workaround: Select the 4 straight line paths and Path->Combine (ctrl - k) With that path selected enlarge this new path from the center and uniformly by holding ctrl and shift and pulling out on a corner so the lines extend beyond the compass outline. Now select the two paths you have, and do a Path->Division (ctrl - /)
and the base shape will be cut up into pieces. Ther would be 8 if the shape was symmetrical and the lines were all straight, but they aren't, so you get 11 shapes and will have to delete the 3 odd tiny shapes in the center.
