Do you mean you're writing install/setup instructions for a book, and you want to make sure you're not accidentally relying on something you installed manually ages ago?

If so, you should test your installation advice on a new virtual machine.  Then you can get a plain vanilla install of Ubuntu / Windows / whatever and follow your own setup steps, which will confirm that you're covering everything necessary.

Cheers

Daniel.

I already have a fairly complete stock of publishing-related programs.
So is there a list somewhere of the got-to haves for full Inkscape
use? For example is Ghostscript necessary to create pdf files etc.?

I am writing a book and I don't want to give bad advice.
