To smooth a path, look at "path > simplify".
This is not quite what I meant, although the link you posted is quite helpful.
"Path >simplify" takes an already created path and smooths it out.
But what I'm referring to is, while drawing, being able to draw a freehand curve without the cursor jumping around and creating jagged lines. More than simply being unclean, this tendency for the cursor to not flow smoothly makes it almost impossible to stay on target when tracing over existing lines.
The style of cartoon in the link you sent lends itself well to creating bezier lines and then adjusting them point by point. But in a more realistic comic book style, that would be a maddening task with all the detail.
What I'm looking for is an option to interpret line data coming in from the tablet with filters that assist in making smooth lines. This is what some Adobe products do, so it's an application specific issue.
