[Inkscape-user] GLowing Text and version

How can I make the text glow / highlight ? I tried one of the filters (Glow) but that isn't doing much)

I want to use the text for a buton, and when someone presses the button, I want to see it all highlighted..

Ps. I am working with version 0.9.1 64 bit and it seems to slow, and crashing a lot (just quits) Is 0.48 better to use ? since all the videos I can find , seems to be all done with 0.4.8
