I have to admit that I did some final tweaking in CinePaint, but if that's ok, I could to a tutorial on this. (And there are other possibilities as well, such as isolating a background, etc.). The basic work was done in Inkscape. Due to the incredibly easy handling of the splines, I prefer this to, say, paths in the Gimp.
