Thanks, Molumen; that was what I was running into, too. I suppose I can throw in registration marks and save each layer to a different file for the color separations. I was just hoping to be slicker than that. ;o)

I may be wrong, but after a small test with PDF and SVG file formats it looks that there is no way to keep the layer information. In Illustrator all the objects are placed in one layer.
tested with Inkscape0710141822 and Illustrator CS2
