First off, what version are you using and what platform is it on? In my build from this morning’s CVS on Windows, it works as you’d expect. I can copy from one doc and paste into another. If you are not using a current version, that may have something to do with it. If you are, more information will be needed to try and figure out where the problem lies.

In the meantime, this is not the recommended method, but if you are having that much difficulty you can just “import” draw1.svg into draw2.svg. If there are many other objects in draw1 that you don’t want imported, you may want to save another copy of it which only has the objects that draw2 will need (to avoid having to weed them out after the fact). It’s probably not the optimal alternative method to copy and paste, but it still accomplishes what you are looking for.

Subject: [Inkscape-user] Copying objects

Hi!

How can I copy an object from one drawing file to the another one?

For example:

- I make draw1.svg, where one of the objects is a composite between a curve and a triangle, each with it own customization.

- I start other project, draw2.svg, and I note that I need exactly the same curve and triangle.
- I don't want to redraw them, I just want to copy from one to the another.

Right now, if I put "copy" in one document, and then "paste" in other, I get a "Nothing in the clipboard".

Thank you!
