One could simulate this with grouping layers. However, the handling should be twofold. When selecting a group, this should mean that all the other groups are set to invisible.
I would also like to find support for hspell (in some future release). hspell is the successor of ispell, aspell, and myspell (OpenOffice) together. It is written in C++.
Possibly you can make use of link-grammar, which is used by Abiword...
