One thing you can do to help is trim responses to only include pertinent content.
I make more effort than most to trim long posts so I'll just assume that wasn't directed at me.
Well... not directed in general, but in this specific case (especially as I spent a few minutes trying to figure out the reason for the entire post quoting). That is, this one single mail addressing spam filtering just happened to be the type to choke certain spam filtering.
Since the content had addressed spam filtering issues with digest readers, I thought it was important to point out that over quoting could cause similar problems but for non-digest subscribers. The main reason to mention it was to try to help minimize negative impact from spam filtering for both digest and non-digest people.
(also, it was slightly amusing that you broke with your usual trimming practice to point out the spam filtering problem, but in a way that inadvertently added to other types of spam filtering problems)
Changing the subject line occasionally so it matches the actual subject helps too.
Actually, I'd looked at that in this case, but since the content direction had already changed but kept the same subject line, I didn't want to wander things off too much. (Oh, and though some mail readers will thread by subject, others will override that with threading by In-Reply-To fields. It helps some users, but not all)
