What is the file's filename? If it's 'test', try renaming it to 'test.svg' before loading it. Several issues had been found with how Inkscape handled file extensions, and will be fixed in this coming release but may not be working properly with the release you're using.
It's unlikely that a file that works in Sodipodi would not work in Inkscape, though certainly not impossible. I don't think we've run into a case like this yet, though. However, if it was, a workaround is to save the Sodipodi file as 'plain svg' before loading it in Inkscape; again, though, this shouldn't be necessary and if it is, should be filed as a bug against Inkscape.
It's also probably not an installation issue; if it was, it's likely others would have run into it by now. Are you able to create, save, and load new drawings in Inkscape? If so, then the program is installed correctly.
Anyway, try renaming the file and let us know. Hopefully that's it, and hopefully this issue is already resolved for the upcoming release. :-)

Hi all, I'm new to the list, I try inkscape for the first time and have some problems:
first when I want to open a file create by sodipodi I have the following error message:
CRITICAL **: file system.cpp: line 74 (SPDocument* sp_module _system_open(const gchar*, const gchar*)): assertion `SP_IS_MODULE_INPUT(imod)' failed
second now when I want to save: Unable to find output module to handle file: /home/karen/test
I have install inkscape from rpm package (run under mdk10.0) and the installation seems OK, don't know if I miss something?
Thanks for your help Karen
