Copy-pasting a filter from one object to another is done with Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+Shift+V on the other object.

Thank you for that suggestion. The images do look very similar to those I get when I scan my veneers.
However the problem I have is that I do not know how to use such images in Inkscape. I would imagine there may well be some instructions/tutorials about this but my attempts to find these have failed miserably!

I know I can create a design with a number of closed areas so that all I have to do is to select a particular area and then choose a colour to fill that area.
The picture below shows a selection of typical veneers I want to show. As can be seen the veneers are not a flat colour. Is there any way I can used a scanned image of the veneer so that I can see the variation of colour when I use this to fill a selected area of my design?
