Not quite.
I tried to play with this, but it uses the pattern bounding box to connect the patterns. So you have to play with -ve offsets in the spacing to get it OK.
Also, the ribbon always makes the narrowest point vertical, rather than aligned with the pen nib, so to fake it you have to rotate the path and nib so the nib is horizontal first, then rotate it back afterwords.
The other problem is that the ribbon stretch doesn't preserve a minimum width, so a vertical line will end up thin, rather than the thickness of the "pen tip" shape. Here are examples:
