OK, with a GIF-pattern it works, it just doesn't look so nice.

In this case you can just make a pattern out of vector SVG dots instead, or make a clone tiling.

I didn't succeed making SVG dots - how could I do that?

I tried to klone the layer, but it didn't help. Probably I misunderstood.
