I'm guessing you are using the path-along path extension or LPE.
Either of these will deform your objects along the path.
A workaround I have found is to turn your object (the circle) into a
marker (Object->Object to marker) , and use the Effects->Modify
Paths->Add Nodes extension to create nodes with an even spacing and
change the start, mid and end markers to the newly defined marker
shape (see attached)
