[Inkscape-user] New User - Questions

Inkscape Users,

I just downloaded Inkscape today. It looks like a really slick program, but I had a couple of questions.

(1) How do I snap the vertex of one line to the vertex of another line? (2) Do you set the color of a line in the fill/strokes dialog? (I seem to create a polygon when I try to add color to a line, and can only use black and white with the linear or radial gradient fills.) (3) How do you snap a vertex to a grid? (4) Is Inkscape programmed in Java, or another language?
