In CVS palettes are supported (so they will be in 0.42), using the

file format as GIMP. The name used in Inkscape for the feature is "swatches".
May I ask why you have chosen this name? :) Didn'y you guys plan to introduce consistency with GIMP/Scribus in several aspects like this one?
I think that the term "swatch" is very standard, especially in vector graphics programs. Terminology wise you can look at it like paint, you have a palette of colors... the colors are just called swatches though. Maybe that's just how I think about it though.
Is that a Swatch watch? (sorry... had to)
