When I try to use the sculpting tool in Linux, the entire Inkscape window is grabbed and moved. It looks like that's a feature of Linux - alt/click to drag a window. It is a neat feature that I didn't know about, but it does interfere with Inkscape's sculpt key mapping.
Yes. Personally I think we should make that configurable, but it's a complex bit to implement, and even more complex to "get right" as far as use goes.
In the mean time, most window managers under Linux allow you to set that to work with other than the alt key. Many people remap the window manager to use the "Windows" key found on most modern PC keyboards.
