Dear Brynn,

I really wish I could help out more with that, because I really do enjoy helping new users. But whenever I do, I just get frustrated (with all the things I already mentioned, plus what you mentioned about marking solved or answered or whatever). The worst part for me is having to open each message, every visit, to find out if there is any reply. For me, relying on email notification is even worse. Anyway, I usually last a week or 2 before I get so frustrated I just give up.
- You do answer *these* emails ;-) - the answers section is nothing different. One can even answer by email. Just like this. They don't send notifications, but the full message. I find it's even easier than on the forums... One doesn't even need to open a browser, it all comes to you. But everyone is different - and you're already doing a lot in other areas :)
For example, if there was some way to put a global message at the top, that tells what kind of information they need to provide in their message. If they can use a file sharing site like dropbox and give us a link to the file, we can at least get the file in a roundabout way. And probably some other info too.
- Currently, I'm providing that info manually whenever it seems to be needed (in many cases, it's not, fortunately). But many users never used any file hosting service, and have difficulties understanding that attachments to emails will not work when they answer.
I couldn't find any configuration options for setting such a message (tried in inkscape-web project and read the documentation).
- That's fortunately totally wrong :) More than 95% of the questions are
answered....
No, what I meant is that if you stopped answering questions (for some reason - illness, the proverbial unforeseen bus, etc.) it would go back to most questions being unanswered.
- Yes, that appears to be true :/ - but I had been hoping that this discussion here will motivate some people to come over and lend a hand, because there are some things that we cannot change.
So we will still need that help for at least one or two years, until people have switched to 0.92 (or until launchpad fixes their bugs, whichever happens earlier...).
I wonder if there's any chance of having that point to the new forum, whenever it finally is ready?
- See my previous replies (I think you may have written your reply in between).
Short answer: for the future 0.92: yes, already fixed;
for older Inkscape versions: no, not with that launchpad problem (see also: https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/696940).
Kind Regards, Maren
