Some of us use deviantART to show our work. It is not open and the SVG support isn't perfect but it has the advantage of having a very large community of users.
i know, i'm in deviant artist too, even if i didn't submit images but i'm realizing now that they have svg support, inkscape gallery uses raster images.
You could have used ccHost, the software we are using for the Open Clip Art Library, I believe its support for SVG out-of-the-box, albeit not perfect, is better than to start from scratch with Drupal (and we could use some additional php developers :p)
Did you see inkscape gallery? Cause it's not only putting image into and showing them, it's a full featured web-site and i needed a powerful cms to do that. You'll find infos, link to tutorials, two forums, user gallery, comments, votes, licenses, link for downloading inkscape, news, several ways to show galleries, tag clouds, service links, user profiles, context related content, bilingual interface and content (english and italian), newsletter, private messages, feed rss and more to come. I thought not to figure out how to support svg for now, but to provide community with a rich gallery website with many features and inkscape made graphics.
I hope you're going to take a look at inkscape gallery, and i hope you'll use it cause it is meant to be a comfortable place for the inkscape's user. See you on deviant art for now, or in inkscape gallery very soon... Thanks, Da.
