Wow, it just occurred to me from how much attention this thread has gotten, that there is a strong interest among 'scapers to have logo/mascot contests.
Even if Inkscape is full up on logos, certainly there is no end of projects that would be positively _thrilled_ to have help from the Inkscape User community. I personally get a couple requests every month; unfortunately I can't draw so never can help them out. (Most recently, the other day someone asked me about a general purpose logo for use in promoting Open Source that he could print on a t-shirt so he could be a walking billboard for Open Source. *grin*) I think using the same procedure this community used for the about screen contest, it could help to leverage art for the benefit of Open Source in general.
Anyway... would you guys be interested in having an official Inkscape User monthly logo contest for selected open source projects?

I prefer the logo for something like Inkscape, and I do like its logo. I think having a mascot contest would be a good idea, but for the simple reason of having a contest, so the "mascot" wouldn't be added to the software.

Hi list,
The logo is not enough guys, there should be some maskot for inkscape. Linux has one, gimp has one, mozilla has one. The sooner it happens, the better.
I created some mice with inkscape recently: http://www.inf.sgsp.edu.pl/pub/MALUNKI/incoming/
and if you like the idea I could create some inkscape related mice or similar animals, like http://www.inf.sgsp.edu.pl/pub/MALUNKI/2004/qcad2.png I've created some mascot-logos already and personaly I believe animal-mascots that can be drawn with hands and fingers (hard with birds or tuxes) are best, because various objects can be nicely put in their hands.
I don't want to force myself into official inkscape logo author, so the contest could be a good idea too.
