Hi list,
The logo is not enough guys,
I question this assumption.
there should be some maskot for inkscape.
I do not see why a mascot is necessary.
Linux has one,
Tux came out of a logo competition, and although Tux was not chosen it did become the mascot by sheer popularity and acclaim
gimp has one,
and I find it creepy and disturbing
mozilla has one.
typically mozilla has several (reinventing the wheel ad nauseam, I'm certainly sick of it) the original Mozilla Red Lizard and another smaller cuter looking green lizard which was an easter egg in Netscape and appeared on the Mozilla splash screen for a while.
And then there are the icons for Firefox, thunderbird, and so on...
The sooner it happens, the better.
I couldn't disagree more strongly.
I created some mice with inkscape recently: http://www.inf.sgsp.edu.pl/pub/MALUNKI/incoming/
And they are quite cute and an excellent piece of artwork however I do not see any particular relevance to Inkscape or the neccessity of having a mascot. Even if we needed a logo I am not entirely enthusiastic about the idea of it being a rodent.
(Interesting cultural note: is the emergency number 998 in your country?)
I don't want to force myself into official inkscape logo author, so the contest could be a good idea too.
It is great to see people creating artwork using Inkscape but I think a mascot tends to be sickeningly cute and unnecessary. If anything I think it would be a distraction which would detracts from an otherwise proffessional image of Inkscape.
Sincerely
