About the only thing that raised my eyebrow was the mention of d-bus in 1.4: I hope d-bus is never a hard requirement, and Inkscape always remains init-system agnostic (which means checking libraries for such init-agnosticism).
dbus isn't an init system. are you thinking of systemd?
Honestly, dbus is great and should have had more support when we had it. But that's for another day.
Martin,
I should have made two sentences.
Quite apart from dbus, I don't use user applications that care what init system the computer is using. And yes, I personally have a problem with systemd, would never init my computer with it, and if given no other choice would migrate to Mac rather than use systemd. But listen, others like systemd: I'm just saying I hope Inkscape doesn't build in any code such that Inkscape can't run or loses significant capability unless a specific init system, *any* specific init system, is used.
