A third option we have is to turn off posts from non-list members. This could drastically cut down spam, but it has a big downside: Any Inkscape user with a question or issue, will be forced to have to sign up for the mailing list before posting. What if there were a question submission box on inkscape.org that would send to the list? The list could be closed, but anyone could go to inkscape.org and ask questions from there.
I've noticed WebForm emails come through from time to time, so apparently we already have this in place.
