Hello! I am new to inkscape (using it on a mac, OSX10.4.3) and somehow I cannot figure it out (yet):
When I try to open one of the ready-made gradients (either selectig "with" inkscape or double-clicking them – they are owned by Inkscape anyway) no window as described opens and the new gradients do not show up in the combo-box.
Is there a mechanism to import those graphs or put them into a special folder or else?
Greetings, Rolf

Did you tryied it ? I did many times and it does not work in Inkscape. If **yes**, please tell me wich one.
*Any* will work.
Let's try the first one: http://openclipart.org/clipart//special/ gradients/gradient-german-flag.svg
Click on the link and select "Open with inkscape". The file is downloaded and an Inkscape window (apparently empty) is opened. Draw any shape (say a rectangle) and use the gradient tool (Ctrl +F1). The combo box for changing gradients will containa 'german flag' gradient.
Just like this: http://nicubunu.ro/pictures/inkscape/gradient.png

One more thing.
Another spetial section is not working.
GRADIENTS
See for yourself
It *is* working, only the thumbnails are not working. You can download any file, import it in Inkscape and the gradient will be available.
