The entry window on the Text tab remains grayed out until you have typed at least one character. What I propose is that you be allowed to enter text as soon as you have defined the text entry point. Perhaps this is a bug as you can enter flowed text as soon as a text box is defined.
Ah, yes, well, it can be considered a bug. When there's nothing but cursor, the text object does not exist yet (unlike flowtext), that's why you can't type in the dialog. But now that I think of it, if we fix this and thereby allow the dialog to create a new text object, why not allow it to do that even if there's no cursor, so it just places the new text in the middle of the current view and selects it, when you click Apply?
